Have you lost sight of healthy nutrition and allowed your circumstances to get in the way of taking care of yourself?  If so, it’s time you made a change!  Welcome to the world of Clean Eating!

Eating clean is about taking control.  Not just of your body and appearance but your overall health.  If you want to be healthy and vital for years to come clean eating is the way!  Not only will eating clean help you to live a long and healthy life, it will also make you look great.  What other way of eating has you eating an abundance of food and still allows you to get the body that you have been dreaming of?  The fact is that while working hard is certainly important, at least 85% of your appearance comes from your diet.

So just what is clean eating?

Clean eating is building a diet around clean, whole foods.  It’s about leaving out the junky pseudo food and instead choosing foods that will actually help your body stay healthy.  Medical research has now proven that many foods have the power to heal the human body and help prevent disease.  By the same token, there are also foods that have the power to HURT your body. (Like fast food that very often isn’t really food at all….ever wonder why you hear so many people talk about keeping McDonald’s burgers for years only to find out that they never decompose?  Even scarier – the bread doesn’t even mold. ) In fact, there is an entire branch of biology called nutrigenomics that studies the impact of foods on your body.  It is important that you understand which foods you need to be healthy, and eating clean does that for you.

Eating Clean is NOT a Diet!

One important thing to understand is that clean eating is not a diet but a lifestyle.  While we have all spend a great deal of time searching for diets that work, the reality is that most diets don’t work at all.  Think about it.  You get all excited about the latest and greatest plan that you have to lose weight.  You vow to go on a low-calorie or low carbohydrate diet.  You may even be successful at eating this way for a time.  The challenge is that the very nature of a diet implies that it is going to end at some point.  Unless you make a conscious decision otherwise, when you diet ends you are likely going to go back to the very method of eating that got you into trouble in the first place.  Only this time you are probably going to get any fatter because your restrictive diet has actually lowered your metabolism.  Additionally, it has left your body devoid of many essential nutrients, so your energy levels are low.  These two factors mean that as you go back to your old habits you are going to get fatter than ever before.

Clean eating is a way of eating for the rest of your life.  It does not mean that you have to feel deprived, just that you are making a commitment to choose fresh foods that are minimally processed.  Organics are best because you want to keep as many harmful chemicals out of your system as you possibly can.  The good news is that with a little know how, you can make delicious, gourmet foods that are also healthy.  Now, I am not the author of Clean Eating Magazine or the Eat Clean Diet, but I am a HUGE fan.  In fact, I attribute Tosca Reno’s book for a major turning point in my life and I highly recommend you pick them up.  My goal is to share my own personal journey and struggles with fitness and food, as well as some amazing clean eating recipes.
